The Australian government’s JobMaker program might be just what we need – provided we fund the right type of training. Pre-Covid, McKinsey predicted that by 2025 there would be 85 million more jobs than candidates globally – whilst 20 million people would remain unemployable due to having the wrong skillsets to fill those open jobs.

Korn Ferry announced last year that Australia’s skills shortage would reach 2.2 million by 2030.

One of the keys to getting people back to work AND solving the longer-term skills shortage is retraining the un-or-under-employed.

In addition to supporting our apprentices and our STEM fields, we need to train our workforce in the 4 key things they need to continue to remain employable through the next decade.

These include resilience, the confidence and ability to learn new skills, flexibility and problem-solving.

These are the MOST important skills needed in this decade of disruption.

Covid will hopefully be the most significant disruption between now and 2030 – but it will certainly not be the last.
