Ches Rafferty – Sky News

CEO, Scantek Solutions

Scantek Solutions CEO Ches Rafferty says “unfortunately”, Medibank doesn’t really have the option to give into the $15 million ransom the hacker is demanding.

“As the CEO of Medibank has noted, once you pay the ransom, what is to stop them just selling the data anyway?” he told Sky News Australia.

“If the ransom’s paid, that encourages more ransomware actors and cybercriminals to come into the market to try and extort other businesses.

“And then inevitably there’s a high likelihood that they’ll sell it on the dark web anyway.”
